Are there any advantages to have index.php  instead of index.html for my root domain?
Is it just faster? Any other advantages?

If I did, would I have to have all my category pages .php instead of .html?

Also, in the manual it says:  Include this code in your .shtml files: <!--#include virtual="/tp/ssi_in.php"-->

Does this also work if I just had .html files?

For script to work your files need to be or shtml or php

Google it, it depends on your needs. I personally use php always.

OK cool - but does Trade Pulse work just as well and fast on .shtml as it would with .php?

i prefer personall .shtml but nowadays there is basically no difference, they are both ligtning fast
you even can use .html but then you have to add in htaccess to treat .html files as .shtml

its totally upon person choice i would say

me ... i like .shtml more cause its harder to insert malicious code for hackers
